Maine can turn out to be one of the best vacation destinations you've ever chosen. You will see why once you are driving through this incredible land of mountain and wilderness beauty. It's a pleasure to find some comfortable lodging and settle in for a vacation of a lifetime.
Augusta, the capital city, holds interesting history. Tour the old Fort Western to view the oldest surviving fort in the US. Then head northeast to Bangor where you can climb Maine's highest peak, Katahdin. Or if you love fishing, you can see what sort of catch you'll make in the Penobscot River.
Dropping south, you will find some of the wildest and untamed coastline imaginable in Acadia National Park. You can enjoy a hike among the towering pines with the scent relaxing and refreshing you. Nearby in Bar Harbor, you must try a fabulous lobster dinner – one that Maine is famous for. You will see many lighthouses along the coast and these make for a photo op like nothing else.
From Biddeford, you can hire a boat to take an excursion along the coast, perhaps spotting some bald eagles or dolphins. Winter is the time you should visit Lost Valley Ski Area for some great skiing. But if you are eager to have some outdoor adventures in the warmer months, you can fish or boat on Sebago Lake or hike in White Mountain National Forest.
