Montana holds a fairytale land of mountain wonders and outdoor fun for the whole family. In fact, Montana's name is derived from the Spanish word, "montaƱa," which means "mountain." Another nickname for MT is "Land of Shining Mountains," and you'll see why when you visit.

At any of the mountain ranges you choose to tour, you will find outdoor recreation at its best, from climbing, mountain biking and hiking to the favorite wintertime sports of skiing and snowboarding.

Beartooth Mountain climbs to over 12,300 feet in Carbon County, MT. Two other of the highest peaks are Mount Wood and Granite Peak. Granite Peak is located in Park County, Montana. The Bitterroot Mountains blend into the Continental Divide, and the northern part of the Divide contains the Garnet Range as well as many others. In this northern section, the most prominent range is the Lewis Range, found mostly within Glacier National Park in northern Montana.
