Portland, Oregon is a wonderful place to bring the family. With Mount Hood as a backdrop, you have a city that provides you with plenty of things to see and do. If you want a taste of the history of this part of the country, simply drop by at the Oregon Historical Society for multimedia presentations and exhibits. The kids will love the Children's Museum with its hands-on exhibits, too.
Along Oregon's coast, you'll find Sea Lion Cave and lots of lighthouses and museums. From Astoria Column you will get panoramic views of the Columbia River and the Pacific Ocean, even seeing Washington's beautiful mountains on a clear day. The shores of this state are lined with state parks and recreation areas.
Plan your itinerary carefully, because there's so much to see in Oregon. In Fairview you can see a rush of water at the year-round waterfalls, Multnomah Falls, which freezes solid in cold weather. On a trip south, stop and hike around Crater Lake in Crater Lake National Park. Numerous trails provide you with some incredible views.
